Plus Size Tank Tops & Camisoles You’ll Love

Versatile wardrobe essentials, camis and tank tops for women can be used for layering, support, or can stand on their own as the top for your favorite summer outfit. Wondering what the difference is between a tank top and camisole? The primary difference is how you plan to wear the piece. Camisoles are most often worn under button-up shirts, blouses, sweaters, and hoodies, or as sleepwear. Tanks can be worn as a standalone shirt as well as layered under your favorite kimono or cardigan.

Tank Top Styles You Need to Know

The basic tank is probably not something that needs much of an introduction, but the cuts, lengths and shapes of our tank top selection are worthy of a little exploration.

  • The classic women’s plus size tank tops fit close to the body, have straps wide enough to cover most bra styles, a scoop or V-neck neckline and hit right around your hips in terms of length. The size of the straps can range in width from less than an inch to about four inches.
  • Long tank tops are awesome for tucking into your favorite pair of shorts all summer long. Also called tunic tank tops, these extra-long tanks usually cover the hips and rear, making them a perfect option to layer under your favorite tunic, sweater, or swing top and pair with leggings or skinny jeans.
  • Swing tank tops have a more generous cut, with the hem flaring away from the body. There are a variety of hemlines for this style of tank, including rounded, hi-low (short in front and longer in back), and asymmetrical options.
  • Sometimes called a “shell” or you can find plus size tank tops in a wide range of patterns and materials and finished with stylish details like tassels, lace, buttons, mesh, crochet panes, lace and layers.

Our Favorite Camisoles

Generally worn as a layering piece, the cami hugs the body and usually offers some stretch for a comfortable fit. You’ll find that most plus size camisoles have spaghetti straps, making them less bulky for wearing under other layers. Plus size camis are available in many neckline styles, from V-neck and scoop neck to lace-topped styles that offer a feminine appeal when peeking out from under sweaters or blouses. No matter the season, having tanks and camis in a variety of colors and styles can extend your outfit potential exponentially.
